Shane Black in final negotiations to direct IRON MAN 3
A few weeks back, the film geekosphere went into a tailspin with the news that director Shane Black was up for the director's chair for IRON MAN 3. Deadline now exclusively reports that Black is in "final negotiations" to take up the chair vacated by Jon Favreau. There is, however, no word on whether or not Black (a screenwriter first and foremost) will also pen the script for the film.
Black and star Robert Downey Jr. have previously worked together in the little-seen KISS KISS BANG BANG, a film that I unabashedly love and find ridiculously amusing and engaging. Much of the character Downey played in KISS KISS, Harry Lockhart, fits into the roguish charms model that Tony Stark does, too, so this is a truly excellent reunion of talents.
Black's resume is filled with interesting screenwriting gigs - from LETHAL WEAPON 1 and 2 to THE LAST BOY SCOUT. He is currently working on DOC SAVAGE, a Sony adaptation "based on the classic pulp hero." WB also has him on board to direct a live action version of manga series DEATH NOTE.
Having loved IRON MAN and having felt that IRON MAN 2 was a huge letdown, I am excited about the possibilities this new infusion of talent will bring to the franchise. What do you guys think?
