SHERLOCK HOLMES scribe penning Jack Ryan’s trip to MOSCOW
One of last year’s biggest surprises, at least for this writer, had to be the sheer quality of Guy Ritchie’s hit film, SHERLOCK HOLMES.
Now, while I completely expected the action to be well-directed, the acting to be top notch, and the score to be breathtaking (which it in fact was, and may very well be Hans Zimmer’s best work in years), I never expected the writing to be as truly fantastic as it was.
Well, according to THR, one of the film’s scribes, Anthony Peckham, will follow his HOLMES script and Clint Eastwood film, INVICTUS, with the screenplay for the upcoming Jack Ryan film, MOSCOW. The writer will follow Adam Koxac and Hossein Amini (writer of the fantastic screenplay for Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming film, DRIVE), who have both had their hands on the screenplay.

The film will “tell the story of Ryan’s early career, set in Russia with terrorist acts as a backdrop.” With Chris Pine in the lead role and Jack Bender directing, the film is set to shoot sometime early next year (at least all signs are pointing to that), and personally, I can’t wait. Sure, while I didn’t really dig his work on INVICTUS, HOLMES shocked me with how well written that film was, and honestly, I have no interest in the Jack Ryan franchise, so hopefully this will spark something that will actually be worth a bit of time.
