Short list for SUPERMAN’s Lois Lane revealed?

With star of The Tudors, Henry Cavill, cast as the man himself, Superman, it’s about time we find out who will play his fellow reporter and love interest, Lois Lane.

And apparently, WB is looking to a really interesting collection of actresses. What’s Playing is reporting (via The Playlist), that the studio is looking at Malin Akerman, Kristen Stewart, Dianna Agron, Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel, Kristen Bell, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

A few names scream out as being a little unlikely, particularly Akerman, Stewart, and Agron. The three of them don’t quite fit the age bracket that one would imagine a Lois Lane, given the age and look of Cavill. That said, age is probably the smallest issue when casting Snyder’s Lane, but it does seem to be a bit unlikely that they would go as “old” as Akerman (who is 32), or as young as Agron. Stewart is in the hunt to join the upcoming SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, so age may not be an issue, it may be sheer scheduling.

The likeliest choices are McAdams and Biel, both of which were being looked at for the role of Selina Kyle in WB’s upcoming THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Winstead and Bell were both mentioned by “third and fourth-hand sources” so take those with a grain of salt, but honestly, I think Winstead is the most interesting choice for this role. She’s a great actress, and more than looks the part.

What do you think? Who would you cast as Lois Lane?

I would choose Rachel McAdams over Jessica Biel.

I would love to see Winstead in this role. With Kristen Bell’s new pilot, it’s unlikely she’d have the time for filming if that gets picked up.

Winstead stood out to me, she usually plays younger roles, but I think she would play the role well. Akerman would be my first choice. She’s only 5 years older than Cavill (32 vs 27) so the age gap wouldn’t be a big deal. Stewart and Argon have to be jokes though, they don’t sound like Lois Lane at all.

Definitely Winstead. She could pull it off.

If the studio chooses Stewart, that requires her to show more than one emotion. Hasn’t Rachel McAdams already played a reporter in that Morning Glory flick? The others mentioned online like Jessica Biel and Ackerman – haven’t we also seen them as the superhero’s or at least hero’s love interest? I feel Ackerman’s too tall next to Cavill’s 6’1 frame and Agron, once again, too young.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead proves to be an interesting consideration, as well as someone’s suggestion of Emmy Rossum on IMDB.

I still think they should highly consider Olivia Wilde or Mila Kunis for the role as the career obsessed journalist, Lois Lane. If they go with a B-lister actress, maybe Kate Mara from 127 Hours? Olivia Wilde can really downplay her beauty and I can see Mila Kunis doing the whole outspoken, throwing out journalistic, verbal vomit thing in the form of career-obsessed, Lois Lane. I think these two, and/or a Kate Mara, dyed brunette, may be able to pull it off.
