Sink or Swim: SXSW blogger panels featuring Gordon and the Whale

Three SXSWs ago, not a soul in Austin knew who or what GATW was. I attended the festival, but only saw two films, conducted three interviews (one with David Schwimmer which was weird, one with the HAROLD AND KUMAR crew which was weird, and one with Harmony Korine, which was, well, you know), and I was there for less than 24 hours. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and I was doing it alone. Then something unexpected happened: our site grew, and grew quite quickly.

Fast forward three years, and this is what we have on the slate for the festival: writers from both the East and West coast attending and reporting (meaning that almost all of GATW will be in one place at the same time), a giant slate of upcoming reviews and interviews, and two of our staff members have the great honor in speaking on two separate panels.

First up, GATW's former West Coast Editor, now Managing Editor (pre-festival promotion!), Kate Erbland is moderating The Blogger Centipede panel, with Matt Patches (MTV NextMovie  - @MisterPatches), Dustin Rowles (Pajiba.com), William Goss (Cinematical - @WilliamBGoss), and Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood) sitting in as panelists. The Bloggers Centipede was created by Goss (he's a smart-but-sassy young man, follow him on the Twitter) and will focus on plagiarism and that watered-down word, exclusive, in the blogger world. This is Kate's first panel ever, and she's moderating, so I will be there to fist pump her on as she fin slaps asses and takes names. The Blogger Centipede will be held in Room 15 at the Convention Center on Monday, March 14th at 5PM.

Second, GATW's Associate Editor Brian Kelley will be sitting in as a panelist for Speaking to Geeks, along with Jenny Alme (InsidePulseMovies.com), Joanne Yang (Gaia Online), Joveth Gonzales (Capcom Entertainment Inc), Justin Rojas (FUNimation Entertainment), and Kelly Parker (Sega of America). Being somewhat self-explanatory, Speaking to Geeks will dive deep into how folks in different areas of media use nerd-of-mouth to get the word out for whatever they're doing; quickly the unhip become the hip. I will be there to fist pump Brian on as he shows the world he can flubber on all day about movies. Speaking to Geeks will be held at Ballroom F at the Convention Center on Tuesday, March 15th at 5PM.
