While Saturday Night Live hasn't had much luck making successful major motion pictures out of their characters and sketches (see: MACGRUBER, IT'S PAT, THE LADIES MAN, and many more), the stars are having better luck on movie projects unrelated to their weekly skits.

According to Deadline, Kenan Thompson, a six season member of SNL, is finally getting his shot at the big screen. He's at the center of dealings for a "high-concept comedy" with Paramount Pictures. The film would focus on Kenan as an entertainer who "gets the old people up to dance at weddings and keeps the party rolling". With executive producer Lorne Michaels and writer Bryan Tucker hailing from SNL, this will be familiar territory for them all.

While this is Kenan's first SNL-produced venture, he has been on the screen since his Nickelodeon days on All That, Kenan & Kel, and their skit-turned-film GOOD BURGER. Growing up watching those shows makes me glad to see Kenan stepping up to the plate for this project. While he is a polarizing SNL cast member, I have always firmly been in his camp.
