Neill Blomkamp

Could this film get any more interesting?

According to Deadline, Syd Mead, famed designer and “Visual Futurist” on the legendary sci-fi film, BLADE RUNNER, will be returning to the genre, this time, with director Neill Blomkamp behind the camera. The designer has signed on to work on set design for Blomkamp’s upcoming film, ELYSIUM.

Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, the film is apparently going to be set 100 years in the future, and will feature an element of social commentary at its core, just like Blomkamp’s last film, DISTRICT 9. At this point, the film is currently being set up at Sony, with the film allegedly going for an R-rating, meaning that this will likely be just as rough, just as raw, and just as gritty as Blomkamp’s wonderful feature debut.

Pre-production is slated to kick start come April, and with a name like Mead attached, you can expect this project to be one hell of an original and inventive sci-fi epic.
