Sony setting up EMERGENCY! for Robert Downey Jr. to produce, possibly star in
As if Robert Downey Jr., needed another starring project.
According to Deadline, Sony has nabbed up the rights to the hit Neil Strauss book, Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life, all with the hopes of it becoming a producing, and hopefully starring, project for Downey Jr.
The story follows Strauss who, “concerned about the state of the world, moved his family offshore and remade himself as a survivalist. He became a lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying guy. This put him a spiral of paranoid fantasies and in proximity of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, billionaire gun nuts and a number of once-normal people whose doubts about the establishment prompted them to move their families into a ridiculous life path.”
The film is set to be penned by Allan Loeb, whose last film, WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, has seemingly fallen off the face of the Earth, and his rather poor screenplay definitely didn’t help. Personally, while I’m a big fan of Downey Jr., the addition of Allan Loeb definitely leaves me a little bit worried about the film. That said, if Downey Jr. does in fact jump aboard the film as its lead, this premise sure will make for one hell of an interesting film.
