Sony working on SALT sequel; Jolie and writer Kurt Wimmer back
With the original making right in the range of $300 million worldwide, talk about a sequel to last year’s hit SALT has been steady since the film’s debut late last year. Well, it’s now official.
Deadline is reporting that Sony is working on the project, with star Angelina Jolie back in the role of Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who is ultimately ousted as a Russian spy. Writer Kurt Wimmer is allegedly working on a new script for the sequel, with Sony moving forward on this one quickly.
Now, director Phillip Noyce was interested in coming back for a sequel, but with films like HUNTER KILLER and his recently announced BLOODSPORT remake, he may be a tad bit busy to take on a project like this. That said, the film is definitely high on Sony’s list, so the money may change everything for Noyce. Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of the original film, I do think that this could be an intriguing franchise, particularly one that is following in the wake of the Matt Damon-led BOURNE trilogy.
