As if James Mercer, frontman of indie standby The Shins and one half of new hip kid obsession Broken Bells, wasn’t already busy enough, now he’s contributing music to the soundtrack of the new documentary, 180° SOUTH. Along with Modest Mouse leader Isaac Brock (under the name of his side project, Ugly Casanova), the two fill out nearly all of the soundtrack’s fourteen songs. The album is complete with a Mason Jennings track, along with a tune from Love as Laughter.

180° SOUTH "retraces Yvon Chouinard's and Doug Tompkins' epic 1968 journey to Patagonia through the eyes of adventurer Jeff Johnson." Chris Malloy (THICKER THAN WATER) directed the doc, which was produced by director Emmett Malloy (of the recent White Stripes tour documentary, UNDER GREAT WHITE NORTHERN LIGHTS). Not just a travel flick, 180° SOUTH is also deeply about the conservation of the unique lands of Patagonia (not just a clothing company, people). Check out more about the film at its very cool website HERE.

The soundtrack will be released on June 22. Hit the jump for the full track listing and the film's official trailer!
