Martin Luther King is one of the greatest late historical figures in American history, so it is only fitting that one of Hollywood's greatest, Steven Spielberg, would be involved in making a biopic about him. Dreamworks has acquired the rights to produce a film on the man who fought against racial injustices with the power of word, in a time when a civil war was on the brink.  Steven Spielberg is set to produce the project so far, but there has been no word on director decisions.  My money is on Spielberg; it would be unlike him to pass up such a historic film opportunity.  It seems to me that now is the perfect time for such a film project to be tackled.

See the rest of the story after the jump!

“In trying to tackle such an ambitious project, the question we had to ask ourselves is, ‘Why now?’ ” DreamWorks CEO and co-chairman Stacey Snider told Variety . “The answer lies in MLK’s own words: ‘All progress is precarious.’ With every step forward, new obstacles emerge and we must never forget that his life and his teachings continue to challenge us every day to stand up to hatred and inequality.”

Who do you guys think would be good for casting as MLK?  My pick is Will Smith.
