Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman working on a new secret project?

I wish I had relationships as fruitful as the one currently held by director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman.

Producing two genuinely brilliant pieces of cinema in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION, the two have stepped out on each other, also resulting in two great films in WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK. Now however, like any good couple, it looks like the two are getting the band back together.

The LA Times is reporting that the two are currently pitching a new film which, at this point in time, is all we know. Now, this may seem like a shock, particularly for fans of Kaufman, who is rather up front about his disdain for working with “another director unless I have to.” However, it looks like Jonze isn’t just “another director,” as it seems like both of the filmmakers here are working on this pitch.

Personally, while I’d like to see Kaufman go and direct his SYNECDOCHE follow-up, I can’t help but think that this time apart has done both wonders. Jonze is a much different filmmaker, as Kaufman is a writer, and while they may have both grown within their respective crafts, I still think that they will blend so very well together. Like milk and hot chocolate mix. Just really, really talented milk and hot chocolate mix.
