Steve Coogan and Michael Winterbottom taking on PAUL RAYMOND’S WONDERFUL WORLD OF EROTICA
Talk about having a great title.
With films like 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, TRISTAM SHANDY: A COCK AND BULL STORY, and the recently released THE TRIP, director Michael Winterbottom and actor Steve Coogan have appeared to become the best of friends. And now the pair are set to take on a new project, entitled PAUL RAYMONDS WONDERFUL WORLD OF EROTICA.
Chortle is reporting (via The Playlist) that the pair will be adapting the life of famed British pornographer and strip club stalwart Paul Raymond, for a film backed by Film Four. Raymond began his career with a traveling strip show, before putting his roots down with Raymond’s Revuebar, in London. Following with various magazines like King and Men Only, he became something of a legend, only to become the victim of extortion attempts, and also his daughter’s heroin overdose.
Personally, while I had no idea this guy even existed before now, it sounds like his life was had to eventually turn into a film. Toss in Winterbottom and Coogan’s involvement, and this is easily one of the more interesting biopics that we have currently in production. The two have made fantastic film after fantastic film together, so hopefully this doesn’t end up changing that.
