Steve Zaillian moving TIME CRIMES remake to DreamWorks, doing re-writes
With the recent rush of buzz getting behind the upcoming time travel crime thriller from Rian Johnson, entitled LOOPER, one of the more interesting modern additions to the time travel genre has just gotten some news on its impending remake.
Deadline has revealed that TIME CRIMES, the upcoming remake of the 2007 Spanish film of the same name, has been moved from United Artists, to DreamWorks, by writer Steve Zaillian. The writer has also revealed that he will indeed be rewriting the film’s screenplay, which was originally penned by Tim Sexton.
The original films follows a man who “repeatedly goes back in time an hour in an attempt to alter the events of a crime.” Now, while this writer doesn’t quite think that the film is in need of a remake (the film is a genuinely stunning addition to the time travel genre), this does definitely mark an interesting move forward for the project, which until now, has seemed to have been relatively dead. That said, just go see the damn original. It’s amazing. This one likely won’t be so similar.
