Miguel Arteta's CEDAR RAPIDS captured my heart at Sundance for a number of reasons - from its charmingly sweet center to the cohesion of its unexpected cast, it's a wonderful anecdote to some of those mean-spirited and messy big studio comedies that have flooded theaters as of late. Ed Helms stars as Tim Lippe, regular guy extraordinaire. When Tim is dispatched to the "big city" of Cedar Rapids for an insurance convention, hijinks and life lessons ensue, especially when he makes a pack of new friends - including Isiah Whitlock, Jr.'s Ronald Wilkes and Anne Heche's Joan Ostrowski-Fox. Up in Park City for Sundance, I got the chance to sit down with the three stars in the charmingly appointed Brown Star Insurance office to talk about the film. I was warmed with both delicious hot chocolate and a three-for-one interview with actors who seemed to genuinely enjoy making their film together. After the break, hear about the fun process of making the film (up in "frigid Michigan"), similarities between Sundance and an insurance convention, the creation of each individual character, and tons more.
