Miguel Arteta’s CEDAR RAPIDS warmed my frozen heart at Sundance for a number of reasons – mainly just by how dang refreshing it was to see a big studio comedy with lots of heart. Arteta has made a career from capturing the extraordinary lives of ordinary guys (and gals) - see YOUTH IN REVOLT, THE GOOD GIRL, and CHUCK & BUCK for proof of that. CEDAR RAPIDS continues that tradition, and to hilarious and charming effect. Check out my review HERE.

Up in Park City for Sundance, I got the chance to sit down with the director in the adorably retro Brown Star Insurance office to talk about the film. Arteta and I had a cozy, hot chocolate-fueled chat about all things CEDAR RAPIDS. After the break, hear about some of the bits and pieces that go into making such a sweet and funny film - from casting to letting his actors develop their characters on their own, plus tons more.
