SUPERMAN now in Zack Snyder’s hands, according to Emma Thomas
Now, while many people believed that director Chris Nolan was going to have his hands all over the upcoming SUPERMAN film, set to be helmed by Zack Snyder, that in fact will not be the case. At least if Nolan’s wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, is to be believed.
The producer recently spoke to HitFix, and revealed that, to no one’s shock, Nolan has in fact handed the reins of the film over to its director, while Nolan gets ready to start shooting his third and final BATMAN film, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
Apparently Nolan assisted in the forming of the film’s narrative and screenplay, but “it’s now Synder’s picture.” And personally, that’s kind of the way I want it to be.
While I find Nolan an absolutely perfect person to take on a SUPERMAN project, I also think that Zack Snyder’s style seems to fit it a little better. He’s a massively epic filmmaker in visual style, and while it’s often style over substance, that is kind of what is needed to make a truly effective SUPERMAN picture. Also, with Snyder keeping his hands off the script, it will have much more narrative and thematic substance than any of his previous films. All in all, this project appears to be moving full steam ahead.
In other Nolan/TDKR news, MovieHole has chatted up WB about possibly featuring a Heath Ledger cameo in the upcoming third BATMAN film, and the studio simply denied those rather silly reports. It can be done, but at this point, I don’t think it’s at all important to have The Joker in the third film, and it would simply be too jarring and take the viewer too far out of the film. WB knows better than that.
