With the insanely big news yesterday that Zack Snyder would be taking the reins of the next SUPERMAN film, which coincidentally is produced by Christopher Nolan and scripted by David Goyer, fans are going crazy for more information over the project.

Warner Bros. is obliging this need, and has also let us know who the main villain of the film will be.

Very fittingly, the villain will be General Zod, a Kryptonian who escaped the Phantom Zone and is out to defeat Supes. He is traditionally viewed as one of Superman's biggest nemeses, aside from Lex Luthor and Brainiac.

Superman is an interesting character as far as this rogue's gallery goes. With Chris Nolan's BATMAN franchise, it made sense to go with lesser-known villains (see: Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul), before bringing out the big gun that was The Joker. I could see Zod as being a villain that fits this pattern.

What do you guys think of Zod as the villain - any casting ideas?
