SXSW 2011 EXCLUSIVE: FIVE TIME CHAMPION clip
This Friday marks the start of the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, and before the first film takes its respective bow (Duncan Jones’ SOURCE CODE opens the festival), we have a very special, and quite exciting, exclusive clip from a homegrown SXSW entrant.
An Austin-based film, FIVE TIME CHAMPION, stars Ryan Akin, Don Pirl, Noell Coet, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Jon Gries, and Justin Arnold, and is directed Berndt Mader. The film follows a scientist name Julius, who after his personal and professional lives crumble, goes on the hunt for not only his estranged father, but also the source of all of his personal troubles.
The clip itself stars Akin as Julius and Pirl as his grandfather, and is quite an interesting look at the film’s tone, mood, and sense of style. I love the premise here and this clip definitely proves that this is a film to keep a relatively keen eye on during this year’s festival. Everyone involved is very much unknown in their field, which on the festival circuit, could often give one the biggest surprise.
FIVE TIME CHAMPION premieres at the Paramount Theatre on Sunday, March 13 at 11:00AM and on Thursday, March 17 at 9:00pm at the Rollins Theatre. The film is definitely one to pay attention to for those attending this year’s festival.
