TRON: LEGACY was released to mixed acclaim. Some people thought it was a great follow up to a series that they never expected to return, some felt that it was bland and uninteresting, while many found it quite middling. But, it did turn out to be a success for Disney, which is why they still had interest in producing a spin-off cartoon series called Tron: Uprising.

There was once a time, not that long ago, when Orlando Bloom had for a better word a blossoming career. Now with roles like that in Paul W.S. Anderson's THE THREE MUSKETEERS, playing what I imagine was described as an "Orlando Bloom type" not actually intended for the actor himself, he seems to have spiraled down a bit. However, he is returning to the role that made his career and possibly making his way back up the mountain from the bottom.

"Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. The Beastie Boys invaded one unlucky homeowner's crib 25 years ago in the iconic music video for "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" and now they're back to revisit the pie-slinging and sledgehammering. Well, kind of.
Written and directed by real life Beastie, Adam "MCA" Yauch, FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED stars Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, and Seth Rogen as Ad-Rock, MCA, and Mike D respectively and tells the story of what happened immediately after the mayhem witnessed in the 1986 music video. It co-stars literally everyone who has ever been in a movie in the last ten years. I'm not kidding, this has to be the most star studded cast ever assembled. It's like NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU meets PARIS, JE T'AIME if a crack addict put those two movies in a trash can, lit them on fire using a bottle of Jack Daniels, and proceeded to extinguish the blaze with his own urine.
If that doesn't make you want to watch it then there may be no hope for you yet. Continue reading
Two major updates are in for LORD OF THE RINGS fans that pertain to the highly anticipated 2012 release of Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT. The first is that Elijah Wood is in talks to reprise his role as Frodo in a cameo appearance. OneRing.net insists that the terminology "talks" is just a formality that is used because it has not been officially confirmed, but it is unlikely that Wood did not agree to appear as Frodo during the scripting phase for the film. The second update is that Wood's part in THE HOBBIT should make complete sense, and occur organically, lest you be an LOTR purist who is utterly upset and confused because Frodo is not mentioned once in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel that the film will be based on.
THE HOBBIT tells the story of Bilbo Baggins' grand adventure. Martin Freeman is already on board to play Bilbo. When it comes to other cast members from the LOTR series, there is a possibility of a grand reunion. Cate Blanchett will definitely return to play Galadriel. Orlando Bloom and Hugo Weaving are not confirmed, but are likely to return to play their characters of Legolas and Elrond respectively. Liv Tyler and Marton Csokas could logically return to play their ancient Elf characters and Elijah Woods' return means the door could be open for Sean Astin to also return as Sam. Continue reading
I'm so jealous of Elijah Wood. He has loads of money, he got play Frodo Baggins, I bet he is really good friends with Eugene Hutz (Golgol Bordello), and no one has ever pulled the "I've never slept" look off so well.
FX is premiering a new show in 2011, staring Wood as a suicidal perfectionist who meets the girl of his dreams; the only wrench is that she has a man-dog that everyone believes is a REAL dog. Wilfred is an American remake of a series from Australia sharing the same name. The concept is enough to hook me, but this TV spot puts the show into the heavy anticipation realm. One of the first albums I bought on cassette when I was a young troublemaker, not even old enough to have money to buy things like cassettes on my own, was the Beastie Boys' debut Licensed to Ill. Similarly, one of the first music videos I remember staying glued to MTV for the chance that I might catch it was "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)." Both were iconic, with the album's cigarette butt-like crashed airplane on its cover and the video's thrashed party scene featuring the Boys themselves. Now fellow Beastie turned writer/director Adam "MCA" Yauch will revisit the famous music video with a short film entitled FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED. The even better news? It will star Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, John C. Reilly and Jack Black as the party crashers and thrashers!
The short is said to pick up where the video left off, when the trio leaves the party. It's unknown at this point if MCA, Mike D., and Ad-Rock will also star or if a few of the above actors will actually portray them (based on the picture above of Rogen, Wood, and McBride I'd say there's a good chance). Guess we'll find out soon enough, as REVISITED will premiere at this year's Sundance in January. Either way, this most definitely fits the definition of "ill."

Fantastic Fest. Sometimes it’s nice letting the words sink in. Fantastic Fest. It’s too bad that this year's Fantastic Fest has come and gone, but it was a truly great time - as it always is. There were surprises to be had, alcohol to drink, a giant cow to cook over an open flame, and overall time spent with good friends watching some truly fantastic films.
This year, like last year (which was my first) I learned a few things. Of course I learned more than 5 things, but these are the memories that stuck out the most, and these were some of the most talked about moments that weren’t experienced by everyone at the Fest. Continue reading

THE ROMANTICS tells the tale of a group of longtime friends who all come together one weekend at a lake house for the wedding of Tom (Josh Duhamel) and Lila (Anna Paquin). The thing is, they’ve all been friends for so long that they have quite the sordid history with one another. It’s nothing but love, sex, drugs and indie music for a group that calls themselves The Romantics.
Allow me to untangle this tale of star-crossed lovers for you. The budding bride-to-be is the best friend to Laura (Katie Holmes), who happens to have quite a history of her own with the groom. The trailer for this genre-bending rom-com/coming of age film, THE ROMANTICS, has arrived exclusively at Apple. Normally my interest in romanticism is not very high, but this one though does seem like it could be good. James reviewed the film when he saw it at Sundance, and his review sounds convincing enough for me, especially when paired along with the trailer. I'm a big fan of murder mysteries. I'm also a big fan of Elijah Wood. Put those two together and it's no puzzle why this poster and a premise alone can get me excited.
The film is called THE OXFORD MURDERS and it stars the aforementioned Mr. Wood as a young Oxford graduate student named Martin, who arrives at the prestigious ivy league school with hopes of meeting his mentor, one professor Arthur Seldom (John Hurt) - an esteemed master of logic. Yet, when mysterious murders begin to happen - each victim being marked with strange symbols by the serial killer - the professor and pupil band together in hopes of cracking the code and catching the crook. I like to imagine the film as a prequel for Hurt's character from INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.
Based on the award-winning novel of the same name from Guillermo Martinez and directed by Álex de la Iglesia, THE OXFORD MURDERS hits VOD, XBOX and Amazon on July 7 followed by a limited release in select theaters on August 6.
