When one goes, apparently they all leave; Sacha Baron Cohen and Kurt Russell exit DJANGO UNCHAINED

Well, I’ll be damned.

With this film heading deep into production now, director Quentin Tarantino may very well be digging a hole as two of his new film’s biggest actors have now jettisoned themselves from DJANGO UNCHAINED.

Variety and Cinemapulse are reporting that both Sacha Baron Cohen, who was only actually attached to a smaller cameo, and Kurt Russell, have left the upcoming project. Kevin Costner and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also left the project earlier on in production for a handful of reasons; so far, this film appears to be fighting an uphill battle.

Check out the official synopsis for Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated DJANGO UNCHAINED

DJANGO UNCHAINED is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, and given Tarantino's track record, we're in for one damned fine film. Aside from starring the brilliant Christoph Waltz, DJANGO UNCHAINED features an all-star cast, featuring Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kurt Russell, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to no longer appear in Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited western DJANGO UNCHAINED just got a little lighter on the casting front as it was recently announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will no longer have a part in it.

Apparently the timing just isn't right, as Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut DON JON'S ADDICTION will take priority, preventing him from acting in DJANGO.

Set photos reveal Christoph Waltz in Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

Although Christoph Waltz has been around for a while, it was Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS that really brought him to the mainstream. In fact, the film led to him winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as the film's primary antagonist, Hans Landa. This led to great excitement when it was announced that Tarantino and Waltz would be teaming up again for Tarantino's big follow up, DJANGO UNCHAINED.

The film is currently shooting, but we've yet to get a good look at what the film is like. But now, we have a photo revealing Waltz's character, Dr. King Schultz. Continue reading

Kevin Costner joins DJANGO UNCHAINED

Kevin Costner is going to have one hell of a 2012. Along with roles in MAN OF STEEL and the upcoming HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS for The History Channel, Deadline has revealed that the actor is in talks to join one of 2012’s most anticipated films.

The outlet reports that Costner will join the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED. He’ll take up the role of Ace Woody, a “sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.” Continue reading

Casting: Melanie Laurent in NOW YOU SEE ME; Tarantino in a new Western?

Despite being behind the absolute mess that was CLASH OF THE TITANS, not only can Louis Leterrier find quite a bit of backing for potential projects, but he can fill those projects with some top-notch talent.

Variety is reporting that Melanie Laurent, who is currently being seen in theaters in BEGINNERS, is in talks to join Leterrier’s next film, NOW YOU SEE ME. The film will be a heist picture that follows a group of illusionists who steal things during the duration of their performances, and will co-star Jesse Eisenberg, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Olivia Wilde.

The outlet also mentions that Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on the project, so I guess you win some, and you lose some. While I have yet to see BEGINNERS, I am a huge fan of Laurent’s performance in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, so her inclusion in this project definitely makes it all the more interesting. It’s about time.  Following numerous weeks of “is he or isn’t he” chatter around the web, actor Jamie Foxx has let it be known just what kind of involvement he’ll be having with Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, DJANGO UNCHAINED.

In speaking with CNN, the actor confirmed that he’ll be starring as the titular character in UNCHAINED, and also confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson will be joining him (along with Christoph Waltz). Continue reading

Kerry Washington up for DJANGO UNCHAINED?

Another day, another bit of news coming out of the camp of Quentin Tarantino.

With Jamie Foxx all but signed for the male lead of his upcoming film DJANGO UNCHAINED, it’s looking like he’s set to cast his romantic lead, the character of Broomhilda, Django’s wife and the woman who makes him seek revenge, moving the film forward.

Variety is reporting that Kerry Washington is in the running for the role, a perfect fit for a rather important character. Now, the character itself doesn’t amount to much, as she doesn’t get much to do other than act like your run-of-the-mill damsel in distress, but it is a character that at its core is the reason the story is able to move forward in the first place. And you know what, it’s tough to think of a more interesting name to fill that role with than Kerry Washington. Continue reading

DJANGO UNCHAINED hitting theaters Christmas Day 2012

This has to be one of the oddest release dates in quite some time. According to Gitesh Pandya (via ROS), Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, DJANGO UNCHAINED, is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2012. Yup, that’s right, Tarantino will be bringing his slavery-based spaghetti Western love letter to theaters on Christmas Day just over a year from now.

The film will follow a freed slave (Jamie Foxx is considered the frontrunner for this role), who attempts to reunite with his wife, as well as take out his former owner, the evil Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson will also star in the film. Continue reading

jamie foxx

Again with the rumors. Can’t Tarantino just make up his mind already?

All joking aside, with various rumors connecting names like Will Smith and even Chris Tucker to the lead role of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, DJANGO UNCHAINED, it appears as though someone has become the frontrunner for that very slot.

Showbiz411 reports (via The Playlist) that Jamie Foxx is currently the frontrunner for the hotly talked-about lead role. The report also states that Leonardo DiCaprio is “definitely signed” to play the film’s main villain, but again, that’s something that has been confirmed routinely over the past couple of weeks.
