ROSEMARY’S BABY coming to The Criterion Collection?

The possibility of an edition of Roman Polanski's classic thriller, ROSEMARY'S BABY, released by The Criterion Collection has been rumored for ages.  The film seemed destined for Criterion (KNIFE IN THE WATER, CUL-DE-SAC, and, his best film in my eyes, REPULSION, have hit home video via the mighty C) and due to one of their ever-great "wacky drawings," looks to be made available soon.

New photo from CARNAGE emerges

The stellar cast of CARNAGE appears in a new photo

Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, and Kate Winslet. Those names right there should be enough to get any movie lover excited. Making it even more exciting is that they’re starring in Roman Polanski’s upcoming CARNAGE, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play God of Carnage, which sees two sets of parents having a chaotic night when trying to discuss a quarrel between their children.

The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters later this year, with an accompanying Oscar campaign. Sony Pictures Classics (via The Playlist) posted a new photo from the film, which you can check out after the break. Continue reading

Sony Pictures Classics picks up Roman Polanski’s CARNAGE

Following closely after the film wrapped shooting, it appears as though Roman Polanski’s upcoming film, CARNAGE, has found a home.

Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures Classics has nabbed the film, which is based on the Yasmina Reza play entitled God Of Carnage. The film stars Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christoph Waltz as two couples who come together over dinner during a night following a schoolyard fight between their two children. Continue reading

John C. Reilly joins Roman Polanski’s GOD OF CARNAGE

In the wake of a recently ended legal battle, it looks as though Roman Polanski’s upcoming follow-up to this year’s rather taut and well-crafted thriller, THE GHOST WRITER, has just rounded out its cast in an interesting fashion.

According to Deadline, John C. Reilly will join Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, and Christoph Waltz in the upcoming adaptation of Yasmina Reva’s novel, God Of Carnage. The film will follow two groups of parents who meet after their spawn are in an altercation at school. Continue reading

Roman Polanski is a free man

Finally, some good news for one of cinema’s most storied filmmakers.

Say what you will about the case against one Roman Polanski, but no matter the stance you take on the story, things have genuinely not looked great for the filmmaker. With numerous attempts to get his case tossed out, he has been under house arrest for roughly eight months now, all based on the thirty-three year old unlawful sex charges made in a highly flawed and utterly botched court case.

Well, now a silver lining, at least for Polanski himself. Continue reading

Prosecution in Roman Polanski case deny request to dismiss charges

News on the Roman Polanski front has been rather quite as of late.  Well, at least until now.

According to Yahoo, prosecutors are not willing to drop charges, even after Polanski’s legal team joined forces with Samantha Geimer’s team in an attempt to get the charges dismissed, along with the Swiss’ continued refusal to extradite the filmmaker.

The prosecution is holding their ground under the basis that the ruling would “fundamentally alter the way in which crimes are prosecuted.” This ruling comes after intense pressure from Geimer, the victim in the case, who has pressured the prosecution citing that “renewed interest of the case and media coverage has led to her being repeatedly victimized.” Continue reading

THE GHOST WRITER television spot

The lucky folks over at Collider got their hands on an exclusive TV spot for Roman Polanski's THE GHOST WRITER, courtesy of Summit Entertainment. I'm always psyched to see a Polanski film, despite the controversy that follows the director, and a few of our lucky readers will be able to attend a free screening of the film in Dallas on February 23.

THE GHOST WRITER stars Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan, as well as Timothy Hutton, Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, James Belushi, and Olivia Williams. The film is the story of a ghostwriter (McGregor) who is hired to write the memoirs of a former British prime minister (Brosnan). His investigation uncovers secrets that lead down a path that includes deceit, betrayal, and murder. Continue reading

Poster for Roman Polanski’s THE GHOST WRITER

He hasn't directed a film since 2005's OLIVER TWIST or written one since 1999's THE NINTH GATE, but in 2010 the notorious Roman Polanski returns to cinema with THE GHOST WRITER. The film has a pretty amazing cast with Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Hutton, Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, James Belushi, and Olivia Williams. It centers around a man (McGregor) hired to ghost write the memoirs of the former prime minister to Britain (Brosnan), and in the process uncovers deep, dark secrets that lead down a path of betrayal, deceit, and murder. No, this is not a documentary loosely based on Polanski's life.

We recently brought you the trailer for the film, which looked to be a pretty intense and layered political thriller. The new poster for the film? Eh, not so much. To sum it up, it reeks of a poor Photoshop job and is very DA VINCI CODE-esque.

Check it out after the jump and then check out the trailer HERE to re-instill your faith in the film. Continue reading

International trailer for Roman Polanski’s THE GHOST WRITER

It's been a few months since we last saw a trailer for this film. Back then, it was simply called THE GHOST and the teaser trailer was so lame that I compared it to an advertisement for a TV show. Well, a lot has happened since then: the director had some trouble with the law, the title changed to THE GHOST WRITER, and someone edited together a decent trailer.

I'm still not 100% sure about the movie. The new international trailer really sells the thriller angle, which I like, but the rest of it does nothing for me. It stars Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan, a combination that seems destined for success even though the movie doesn't look that good. It'll arrive in theaters on February 19, 2010. Keep reading for the full synopsis and the new trailer. Continue reading

The Ghost

Summit Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to Roman Polanski's THE GHOST WRITER. The film will see a release in the first half of next year. The film, originally titled THE GHOST, was in the final phases of production when Polanski was arrested back in September in Zurich, Switzerland. Polanski had been working on completing the film from prison.

The cast of THE GHOST WRITER includes Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Williams, Kim Cattrall, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh, and Tom Wilkinson. Continue reading
