Tahar Rahim joins Lou Ye’s BITCH

Making one of the biggest splashes in 2009, Tahar Rahim is an actor whose name is on the tip of everyone’s tongue, due to his critically lauded performance in Oscar nominated foreign film, A PROPHET (UN PROPHETE).

Now the actor is set to join forces with one of China’s most controversial filmmakers, Lou Ye, for his upcoming film, BITCH.

Ye is best known for being banned twice from making films in his native China (for films SUZHOU RIVER and SUMMER PALACE).  BITCH is an adaptation of a banned Jie Liu Falin biography, which follows a French man, Matthew (Rahim), who has a Chinese lover who follows him to Paris which leads to an “intense love addiction.” Shooting is set to take place in March in Paris and Beijing, with a 2011 Cannes debut being eyed.

Rahim will next be seen in Kevin MacDonald’s EAGLE OF THE NINTH (which still doesn’t have a trailer online, but one can be seen before screenings of DEAR JOHN), and is also currently looking to star in an upcoming Si Kaddour Benghabrit biopic.

Personally, I haven’t seen A PROPHET, but of all of the great things being said about that film, the one constant is the praise that Rahim is getting his performance. I really hope to get a chance to see A PROPHET soon, but if he is as good as he allegedly is, I really can’t wait to see what he has next, especially in a project like this, from a controversial filmmaker.

Agree with almost everything. I didn't love it *that* much, but I would confidently call it a masterpiece. Tough, gritty, cynical, authentic, engrossing film that had me at the edge of my seat the entire time and was excellently acted, shot and directed. One of my top 5 films of '09. If it doesn't win the Oscar instead of The White Ribbon (which I absolutely despise), it'll be a goddamn crime. Great movie that I would watch several times again without hesitation.
