Taylor Lautner to STRETCH his fame to the limit
So, it has come to this...
According to The Hollywood Reporter Taylor Lautner has been cast in the upcoming Hasbro film based off the popular Stretch Armstrong toys.
First off: Taylor Lautner. Really? With his recent success in the Twilight franchise (and a newly sculpted body) Lautner has been on the fast track to stardom. However, I can't see this helping his career much. Sure there will probably be a nice paycheck involved, but paychecks are basically lining his werewolf sheets and footie pajamas as we speak. Perhaps Lautner thought it would be a good choice to return to his SHARK BOY AND LAVA GIRL roots. Or maybe Lautner secretly hates his sex-crazed and acne-ridden fan base and wishes to move into absurdest and goofy cinema. Regardless of his motivations, the most ridiculous thing about this film is its premise.
"The story developed for the movie, being produced by Imagine and Hasbro, sees an uptight spy who stumbles across a stretching formula, which he takes and must now adjust to in everyday life and when fighting crime."
The movie was pushed back from its set release date of May 2011 to sometime in 2012 so they could make it in 3D. While all of that sounds like peaches and sunshine, the real hurdle this film is going to have to overcome is this: Everything about this movie sounds terrible.
I was the proud owner of a Stretch Armstrong toy when I was a kid and the thing that I remember most was how pointless it was to own one, unless your only goal was to break it. Brian Grazer (who is producing the film) seems to share this belief because, he too, wants to stretch the definition of a film to its breaking point.
