In honor of the upcoming release of (500) DAYS OF SUMMER (July 17th), and the subsequent release of its soundtrack (now in stores and on Amazon and iTunes) we are giving away (5) copies of the record (track listing below).

tracklisting

How do I win one of these collections of amazing music, that includes The Smiths, Regina Spektor, She & Him and more, you ask? Why, it’s easy! All you have to do is make a top 5 list of what you think are the best break-up songs. They can be sad songs, happy songs, angry songs, etc…whatever you use as musical therapy during a break-up. Think of it as a mix tape you’d make for yourself or a friend in troubled times of love lost.

Submit your entry in the comments section below. We’ll pick our five favorite mixes and announce them on Tuesday, July 21st. Good luck and have fun!

I know that I am probably not eligible, but this was too good to pass up!

    1. Bob Dylan, as covered by Them – It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue (epic)
    2. John Mayer – Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (the kid is a tool, but this song is sexy and sad)
    3. Tom Petty – It’ll All Work Out (Petty actually KEELS during this, that's grief)
    4. Bonnie Raitt – I Can’t Make You Love Me (you can taste her pain)
    5. Phil Collins – Against All Odds (cheesy, but so heartfelt)

and last but not least something in my bird language:
5.- Natalia Lafourcade: No viniste (in English the title would be something like "You didn't come")

There are so many, but this are the ones that came into my minds right now

I already own 95% of this soundtrack (thanks JW) but I could not resist this.

    5. Samson – Regina Spektor
    4. Electric – Tristan Prettyman
    3. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room – John Mayer (Kate, this song made me contemplate arson.)
    2. Sleeping to Dream – Jason Mraz

    and my number 1…

Brown-Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Odd choice? I was out to dinner one night with my boyfriend (of two years at the time) and a large group of our friends when Brown-Eyed Girl came on in the restaurant. He proclaims loudly "Aw, baby, this is my song for you! My brown eyed girl!" To which I then replied, "My eyes are green, douchebag." Can't hear it now without being glad I ditched that loser. :)

Okay so, I swear I have a method to my madness. The songs I picked are almost like a story, from one song to the next…eh see for yourself :)

It was hard, but here's my list. I've been dying to see the movie.

    1. Jenny Owen Youngs – F*ck Was I ("What the f*ck was I thinking?")
    2. Feist – Let It Die ("The saddest part of a broken heart isn't the ending, but the start.")
    3. Rilo Kiley – Silver Lining ("I've never felt so guilty as when I willed our love to die.")
    4. The Submarines – Brighter Discontent ("A breaking heart in an empty apartment is the loudest sound I never heard.")
    5. She & Him – Thieves Among Us ("Two broken hearts don't beat any less.")

The last song is one of my favorite She & Him songs. Since it's not on any of their records (yet), I'll post a Youtube link to it so you guys can listen:
