Terrence Malick’s next to be more experimental than TREE OF LIFE?

And for those who have been lucky enough to see TREE OF LIFE, or will this weekend when it hits in limited release, you know that that may be the greatest headline ever written.

Here’s the deal.  With TREE OF LIFE, Terrence Malick has not only honed his artistic vision into some sort of hyper auteurish style, but he’s also taken his visual style to its logical experimental conclusion.  A film unlike any you’ll see this year, the film oozes a sense of existential wonderment and spiritual questioning that really bleeds into the Jean Painleve-esque nature of his filmmaking.  However, he may not be done yet.

24 Frames is reporting that Malick has finished photography on his next film, starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Jessica Chastain, and that it will be “even more experimental than TREE OF LIFE.” Count me in.

As a massive fan of TREE OF LIFE, despite the film being narratively quite dense and disjointed, I can’t wait to see what Malick has in store for us here.  TREE is a brilliantly thought provoking piece of cinematic poetry from one of cinema’s greatest poets, and is also his most experimental film.  Here’s to hoping this one can be similarly intriguing.
