Texas Frightmare Weekend (@txfrightmare) announces THE WOMAN with director Lucky McKee in attendance
Texas Frightmare Weekend (presented by Anchor Bay Entertainment in association with Rue Morgue Magazine) will bring the controversy to the Lone Star State, with writer/director Lucky McKee's THE WOMAN screening on Thursday, April 28th at 9:30PM to kick off the premier horror event to be followed by a Q&A. Also in attendance will be the film’s stars Pollyanna McIntosh, Sean Bridgers, and Shyla Molhusen.
Festival Director Loyd Cryer had this to say about the film's presence, "It is really exciting for us to present the Texas premiere of THE WOMAN at Texas Frightmare Weekend. We have long been fans of Lucky McKee’s films and since Shyla was discovered here, we could not be more proud of our association with what we think is his most audacious and affecting work yet. And following films like MAY, RED and his Masters of Horror classic, 'Sick Girl', that is saying something.”
What makes THE WOMAN controversial is the events surrounding its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival when a a few audience members became so distressed by the violence and content of the film, that they publicly disrupted the screening and Q&A, the video of which instantly became a bit of an Internet sensation (you can see those HERE and HERE). The film "follows the horror that results when a successful country lawyer captures a wild woman in the woods and forces his family to help him “civilize” her."

This year's Texas Frightmare Weekend will feature the stateside debut of TOKYO GORE POLICE star Eihi Shiina and director/special effects guru Yoshihiro Nishimura.
Also present will be director/co-writer Jason Eisener with his Sundance hit HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, Tom Six and Dieter Laser of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE I & II (FIRST AND FULL SEQUENCE), cult horror icon Roger Corman, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET’s Robert Englund, legendary horror writer/director Clive Barker with his HELLRAISER stars Doug Bradley and Ashley Laurence, the SAW franchise's Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor and Shawnee Smith, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS' Sean Patrick Flannery, Norman Reedus, and David Della Rocco, PHANTASM writer/director Don Coscarelli accompanied by The Tall Man himself, Angus Scrimm, plus many, many more gruesome guests.
