THE APPARITION goes Slytherin

Shock Till You Drop received news today that Tom Felton, who plays bully Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has been cast in the supernatural thriller THE APPARITION. THE APPARITION is being produced by Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman (the latter two make up the team behind THE STRANGERS).

Felton brings the most star power and experience to the cast of relatively unknown actors and actresses. Felton is currently working on finishing up HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS which will release in two parts. THE APPARITION will mark one of the first films he will star in after Harry Potter ends. While very little is known about the film it apparently centers around a group of college students dealing with the fallout from an experiment gone wrong.

While Felton has become an increasingly good actor as the Harry Potter films progress, this movie seems like a step in the wrong direction, in my opinion. His portrayal of Draco Malfoy in THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE highlighted his best work to date and it would be a shame to see his young talent go to waste in what seems to be a pretty generic slasher/thriller. Joel Silver is behind the project, which means one of two things: It is going to rock OR it is going to be a total mess. Here's to hoping for the best (even if I expect the worst).
