Everyone loves The Asylum, that bastion of cheesy goodness that churns out rip-offs of popular and recent films. Even if you claim to hate them, you know you have a fond spot for their ridiculous yet somehow profitable brand of cinematic weirdness, especially when it comes in the form of an original film.

MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS made waves across the film community over how ridiculous and fun it is, while its sequel, MEGA SHARK VS. CROCOSAURUS, continued the trend of an over-sized shark fighting another over-sized animal. Mega Shark is here to stay...or is it?

Yes, a third film in the series has just been greenlit, with our titular Mega Shark fighting a shark of robotic proportions in MEGA SHARK VS. MECHA SHARK. In the film, the government releases the top-secret Mecha Shark to defeat the franchise’s popular monster in a fierce battle that threatens the planet.

“The fan response to the Mega Shark franchise has been rabid,” said The Asylum partner Paul Bales. “In addition to a very persuasive online petition, we found that Mega Shark has taken on a life of her own. We’ve received photos of Mega Shark cakes, toys and games on a near-daily basis, and we thought it was high time she did battle with an iconic Mecha monster.”

No word yet on who will set to try and regain their 15 minutes of fame, but word is that the film will begin casting later in the year.

Syfy, what would we do without you?
