THE BROOD remake might have its director
Add this one to the long list of movies Hollywood is remaking because it has run out of fresh ideas. This time, it's director David Cronenberg's classic horror film THE BROOD from 1979. Breck Eisner, who was on track to direct the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON remake before stepping down earlier this year, has been linked to the project.
THE BROOD marks Cronenberg's first big hit, as well as Howard Shore's first major score. The movie deals with a psychotherapist who tells his patients to act out on their negative emotions so that their bodies will change physically. It eventually causes a woman to asexually reproduce, giving birth to mutant kids who are psychically affected by her emotions.
I'm not sure if it's merely happenstance or if Breck Eisner is directing these horror remakes on purpose. Currently he is working on THE CRAZIES, a remake of the George Romero film. Only time will tell if this career strategy will work. He certainly can't do worse than his last film, SAHARA (also a remake), which tanked at the box office.
