The Cheat Sheet: THE AVENGERS
THE AVENGERS is only a couple days away, so all of us at Gordon and the Whale want to make sure that you are in the know.
We'd like to present a new column: The Cheat Sheet.
This is your place to go if you got behind on the media frenzy, or even if you just want a reminder about the film. Below you will find a compilation of trailers, posters, clips, and some stuff you can buy about the movie at hand.
Get out your notebooks, kids.
THE AVENGERS is the culmination of five other Marvel superhero films. It all started with IRON MAN back in 2008, which was then followed by THE INCREDIBLE HULK, IRON MAN 2, THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA. Now, all of these characters and their stories will be thrown together for an event that has never before happened on the big screen. Here's the synopsis from the official website.
When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.
Reading it is one thing, but seeing it is believing. Here is the first trailer. Watch on true believers!
Here's the second, more awesome trailer.
Marvel released a series of character posters, displaying the characters inside of the Avengers "A" symbol. Here is all of them compiled together.
But we can't forget the official theatrical poster, which also makes for a great wallpaper for your phone.
Don't forget to check out Fury's Big Week, a comic book lead up to the film. It shows a lot of in between things that were going on as the movies were unfolding, and gives a lot of insight to Nick Fury's character. You can buy them all over at Comixology, and read them on your computer.
If you're looking for some stuff to wear, check out Stylin Online. They've got all of their AVENGERS merchandise 15% off right now, like the shirt below, so now's the time to stock up. You can also check out Super Hero Stuff, or where I purchased my shirt, Hot Topic.
If you aren't working on May 3rd, check your local theater to see if they are doing an all-day AVENGERS MARATHON. Many theaters will be showing all five movies, followed by a midnight screening of THE AVENGERS. Most of them aren't that expensive either, ranging from about 20 to 25 dollars. If you can handle fifteen hours in a theater, it will be well worth it. I know I'll be there.
Here is one final clip, a small sampling of a fight that will happen between Iron Man and Thor. Not really a spoiler, as we have no context to the battle at all.
It's almost time to go folks, but I had to leave you with a couple more things, including a link to our reviewer Kristal's awesome review of the movie.
Easily one of the biggest factors to the film turning into a huge success is director Joss Whedon. His extensive love and knowledge of the comic books and their complicated mythologies made him the perfect match for the film. Check out this shot of Whedon being as awesome as possible on the set of the film.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy Marvel's THE AVENGERS.
