THE CRAZIES and more in this week’s DVD and Blu-ray releases
WHAT’S NEW & COOL THIS WEEK:
This week brings the release of THE CRAZIES, a worthy remake of George A. Romero’s 1973 film by the same name. THE CRAZIES stars Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell as two small town folk who find that their humble abode has become victim to an outbreak which turns the infected into mindless and emotionless homicidal maniacs.
Also hitting shelves this week is PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF, the adaptation of the popular children’s book series. The film from director Chris Columbus (HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS) stars Logan Lerman as the titular Percy along with Sean Bean and Pierce Brosnan.
And for all you documentary and music fans alike, the Sundance/SXSW favorite WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE: A FILM ABOUT THE DOORS (narrated by Johnny Depp) gets its release this week.
THE TITLE-O-THE WEEK I’LL BE RUSHING OUT TO BUY:
While I did catch this is theaters, I’m am ready to once again take a dip into HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, a comedy starring John Cusack, Craig Robinson, and Rob Corddry about a group of friends who travel back in time, via jacuzzi, to their primes in 1980s. The film is more fun than you could ever have in an actual hot tub…well maybe not. But it still provides for a good time to be had by all.
