THE FREEBIE’s Katie Aselton’s next film to be a thriller
One of my favorite experiences from last year was interviewing the lovely Katie Aselton at SXSW, fresh off of watching her directorial debut, THE FREEBIE (which went on to land a spot on my Top 10 for the year). The film has stuck with me all this time, and getting a chance to chat with Aselton mere hours after seeing it only added to my admiration of the project. It also didn't hurt that our interview remains my favorite one of all-time.
An emerging talent and a genuine delight to be around, I've been waiting with baited breath to hear what Aselton has coming up next. The Playlist spoke with Aselton and learned more about the multi-hyphenate's next project, and it's a little different than THE FREEBIE.
Aselton told the outlet that she has turned down offers to direct other works in order to keep her next project a home-grown one. Whereas THE FREEBIE was a highly improvised relationship drama, her next project will be a "fully scripted" thriller she's been working on with her husband, Mark Duplass. Aselton said, “It’s a thriller, something bloody and gory and beautiful...I hope its within my wheelhouse but if feel that it’s beyond me then I’m probably going to call in back up…but it’s definitely going to happen, regardless.”
The Playlist promises more from this interview next week, and I look forward to hearing further information on Aselton's next as it comes out.
