THE HOWLING is the latest horror franchise to get a re-boot
Like HALLOWEEN and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE HOWLING franchise is set to start over. The werewolf franchise that started in 1981 with THE HOWLING and went on to have six sequels will have new life due to producers Joel Kastelberg (SLEEP WITH ME, MR. JEALOUSY) and Etchie Stroh (STRANGER THAN FICTION, DANCING AT THE BLUE IGUANA), who will be re-starting the franchise with THE HOWLING: REBORN.
The original HOWLING was directed by Joe Dante, who also gave the world GREMLINS. THE HOWLING was co-written by indie icon John Sayles (LONE STAR, MEN WITH GUNS). It also happens to be one of the best werewolf movies ever made.
A former studio marketing executive, Joe Nimziki, will be making his feature directorial debut with the THE HOWLING: REBORN. Nimziki also wrote the screenplay. The plot has not been revealed yet.
Shooting is scheduled to start in February with plans for a Halloween release date.
