Don’t get your hopes too high up quite yet, but just know, we may not be too far away from seeing the next film out of director Paul Thomas Anderson.

In speaking with the Vallejo Times-Herald (via Cigarettes & Red Vines and The Playlist), producer JoAnne Sellar revealed that Paul Thomas Anderson’s long-talked about religious piece, THE MASTER, is “expected to open in late 2012.”

The film will star Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky, Laura Dern, Lena Endre, Rami Malek, and Madisen Beaty, and follows a man who, after returning from WWII, starts a new religion while taking a younger man under his wing.

Reportedly drawing inspiration from L. Ron Hubbard and his controversial religion of Scientology, the film is still in the early stages of being put together, so while the production time does feel a bit small, the awards season date does appear pitch perfect.

With his last film, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, being this writer’s favorite film of the ‘00s, there are a ton of expectations behind this film, and frankly, with the cast that PTA is getting here, it’s looking like it may hit that perfectly. Here’s to hoping this block of time sticks.
