The mysterious Paramount casting call that could be for Abrams’ SUPER 8
As many of you may already know, J.J. Abrams is currently working on two known projects. One, MORNING GLORY, which is the director's first comedy and SUPER 8, his newest "1-18-08" project, as far as levels of mystery goes. All we've had for SUPER 8 as of yet was a mysterious (that really is the only word to describe it) teaser trailer which aired in front of IRON MAN 2. Well, ladies and gents, prepare to be updated!
According to JoBlo, a casting call was recently sent out by Paramount Studios. The call doesn't match any of Paramount's upcoming movies, except for SUPER 8. Check out the call after the break, and then we'll discuss.
"Seeking 13-14 year old Boys & Girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film. No previous acting experience is necessary, but must have great energy and a wonderful sense of humor and thoughtfulness.
JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.COLLIN: Male 13-14. Slightly, or more than slightly, overweight. Collin is confident, driven, optimistic and a natural leader. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.
NATALIE: Female 13-14. A natural beauty – she is stunning, but not the "cheerleader" type. Strong and confident, but has an underlying sadness. Should have a Midwestern feel."
You don't have to be Robert Downey Jr. to see the similarities in the three soon-to-be characters. Abrams is looking for a "Midwestern feel" all-around. As many have pointed out already, this is especially reminiscent of a certain 1980s Spielberg flick. I imagine these characters are going to be stumbling onto something they're not prepared for (an alien), but capturing it all on their camera (Super 8). The Super 8 was the first video camera widely available to the public, hence the name.
With LOST now over, I'm gonna need a weekly Abrams fix to replace it. Hopefully SUPER 8 will do the job. I mean, I know it won't. Nothing can. But, hey, I can dream.
SUPER 8 will hit theaters in 2011.
