I know, that heading had me totally shocked as well.

All joking aside, Deadline is reporting that Glee creator Ryan Murphy is being looked at by Sony to helm their recently announced remake of the classic kid’s musical, ANNIE.

The film, which has Willow Smith in the film’s lead role, will feature music from Jay-Z, and while the remake itself doesn’t seem all that necessary, there are worse hands to toss the film into than Murphy’s.

I’m not at all a fan of the filmmakers recent smash hit TV series, but he is talented at setting up musical set pieces, so it does fit. That said, with films like the Mark Ruffalo film THE NORMAL HEART and a romantic comedy slated to star Julia Roberts in the works, Murphy is a busy body, and one that may not have the time to toss this project on his slate. Personally, I hope the film itself falls totally apart, but with everything seeming to move forward relatively quickly, this one appears to be going full steam ahead.
