The sequel to CAPTAIN AMERICA has a release date

Drew Tinnin

April 5th, 2012

Almost exactly two years from now, audiences will be lining up for the sequel to Marvel's highly successful World War II era superhero movie, CAPTAIN AMERICA. Disney has also released a new photo of Captain America (Chris Evans) in action in Marvel's THE AVENGERS. The official release date for the sequel is April 4th, 2014.

Hit the jump to find out where the sequel fits in the Marvel timeline.

The modern day adventures of Captain America will begin right where THE AVENGERS leaves off, so we're assuming Cap survives Loki's invasion, Thor's hammer, and Tony Stark's sarcasm. The sequel will follow Steve Rogers and his continuing missions with S.H.I.E.L.D. under the supervision of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). THE AVENGERS film is loosely based on the Marvel comic book run, The Ultimates by Mark Millar, however it is unclear what storyline the new CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel will follow.

Look for THE AVENGERS on May 4th of this year and the sequel to CAPTAIN AMERICA on April 4th, 2014.
