Squarely at the front of this year’s Oscar pack, Sony is set to bring its golden awards goose back into theaters.

Deadline is reporting that the studio will be re-releasing its massively beloved film, the David Fincher-directed THE SOCIAL NETWORK, into six hundred theaters this Friday. The film is set to hit store shelves on DVD and Blu-ray the following Tuesday (the 11th), and if you can’t wait until Friday to see one of the year’s best, the film’s official website has been updated with new clips and interviews.

This re-release will subsequently boost the film’s box office gross to over $200 million, which is definitely better than one would have thought when the film was first announced, and great for a $50 million film. This is an absolutely great move by the studio who is far and away the year’s Oscar frontrunner.

I’m a huge fan of the film, and while I likely will wait until it hits Blu-ray, this is definitely a great move for a studio looking at Oscar likely in their future.
