THE THING and MONEYBALL find release dates
After getting kicked out of its release date by Universal’s upcoming FAST FIVE, it appears as though the studio has not only found a new date to release its upcoming prequel to John Carpenter’s classic film, THE THING, but Sony has also happened to find a date for its Bennett Miller-directed MONEYBALL.
First, Universal Pictures has announced that THE THING will be hitting theaters on October 14, 2011, one week prior to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3’s big release. The film joins THE THREE MUSKETEERS and FOOTLOOSE on that respective release date, and to me, is the perfect date for this film to make its premiere.
In other news, Sony has announced that September 23 will be the date that MONEYBALL will see its theatrical bow. The film, starring Brad Pitt and Philip Seymour Hoffman, is directed by Miller and based on a script by Steve Zaillian (but also had names like Aaron Sorkin look and work on it). This is easily one of my most anticipated films of next year, particularly coming from Miller, whose last film, CAPOTE, was an absolute masterpiece. Hopefully this one follows suit.
