The Weinstein Company picks up rights to Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut QUARTET

I can see the Oscar campaigns starting now.

The Weinstein Company tweeted today that they have nabbed the rights to Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut, a film entitled QUARTET. Starring Maggie smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly, the film follows three people who live in a home for aging opera stars. When an ex-wife of one of our leads returns for the group’s annual celebration of Verdi’s birthday, their worlds are turned upside down.

Sounding like the epitome of Oscar bait, I am pensive about my anticipation for this project. I think Hoffman has always been one of cinema’s finest thespians, and it will be interesting to see how his years of work in front of the camera will aid his work behind it.  I am quite excited to see this film, and I fully expect to hear a boatload of discussion about the project when Oscar season rolls around this year.
