They shoot elephants, don’t they? The Donald gets trumped after sons’ nasty photos surface
Turns out that getting photographed killing wild animals on safari - especially, say, elephants - is not so good for business.
Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice has been "fired" by Camping World, an RV and outdoor equipment supply company, after photos of his two sons Eric and Donald Jr. appeared with their dead bounty online earlier this week. The safari in question took place in Zimbabwe, in 2010. Camping World's CEO Marcus Lemonis said, "I wouldn't spend another nickel with them." Camping World's ads have already appeared on the current season of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice, where Donald Jr. appears as a co-judge alongside daddy Donald and sister Ivanka.
Donald Jr. took to Twitter to defend his actions in light of the controversy, tweeting: "Not a pr move I didn't give the pics but I have no shame about them either. I HUNT & EAT game." In subsequent responses, he said the meat from the carcasses "fed a village for weeks," and that "nothing was wasted."
The photos originally surfaced on Hunting Legends, a safari tour company based in South Africa. One of the company's tour guides complimented the brothers Trump, writing that "It was evident from the word go that these two amazing young men are everything but the 'city slickers' you would expect!" and that they had "the precision of a true marksman". Animals (including "endangered" ones) can be legally hunted or culled under the guise of "eco-tourism" in countries like Zimbabwe; the money brought in from licenses, etc., providing useful revenue.
Interestingly, Donald Trump Sr. seemed unimpressed with his sons' expensive hobby, saying, "They're hunters and they've become good at it. I am not a believer in hunting and I'm surprised they like it."
Could an on-air firing be in the offing?
