THIS MUST BE THE PLACE gets a trailer that’s more entertaining than the actual film

Better known as the “Sean Penn in makeup” film, as various people this writer has talked to describe it, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is an odd little beast.

Directed by Paolo Sorrentino, the film debuted at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to shockingly mixed reviews, even leaving me to call it a rather uninteresting mess. The IL DIVO director’s latest film, PLACE follows the story of an aging rocker with a penchant for monotone proclamations and eye makeup who, after the death of his father, hunts down the man who persecuted him during the Holocaust.

Sounding as oddly disjointed as it actually is, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE has just gotten a brand new trailer (via Twitch), and while it’s an interesting trailer, the film really doesn’t live up to it. Featuring a mixed bag of performances, PLACE happens to have a solid soundtrack that makes the film rather watchable. Sean Penn is odd at best here, so unless you are a fan of David Byrne or Will Oldham, you may want to second guess watching this.
