This week’s DVD releases – July 28
This week seems to be the fan boy edition of DVD Releases. Whatever your passion, I've got a DVD for you! Everything from comics, to cars, to cylons, and all the gooey stuff in the middle.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (TV)
First up is BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SEASON 4.5 and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: THE ENTIRE SERIES. Okay, I have to take a few minutes to totally geek out. OMG OMG OMG OMG WANT WANT WANT!!!! Phew...glad I got that out of my system. Now back to my journalistic integrity. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is a reboot of the classic 1970s television show that aired on the SciFi, ahem SyFy, network from 2004 until earlier this year when the show aired its series finale. It tells of the classic struggle between man and robot while exquisitely dealing with much more below the surface, such as race, religion, foreign policy, politics, human sexuality, and the human condition overall. If you haven't watched BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, first of all, what in the world is wrong with you?! The last half of the season gets released tomorrow for those of you who have the rest in your collection already. If you're like me and you caught the entire series on Netflix, you can go out and purchase the entire series, which I'm hoping someone will get me for my birthday in September (cough cough Chase cough cough).
DOLLHOUSE (TV)
If you're into anything Joss Whedon, then DOLLHOUSE: SEASON ONE is the show for you. It stars Eliza Dushku and BSG's Tahmoh Penikett as two agents in a top secret agency who get brand new memories for every mission. The show has a wide fanbase, but suffered lack of viewers from being placed in a Friday night time slot on the Fox network. Add this to your Netflix queue and get caught up before season two starts and is subsequently canceled.
DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION
From the moment DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION was announced, the blogosphere was going nuts with rumors, pictures, clips, and criticisms about the live-action adaptation of the popular anime television series and manga comic books. The film is nothing special and is far from the interpretation it deserves, but I actually enjoyed it very much. I'm not a diehard fan of the anime series and have never once picked up one of the mangas, but from what I do know about the lore, the movie seemed to stay pretty faithful to it. I think you should buy the movie, even if you're only slightly a fan.
FAST & FURIOUS
FAST & FURIOUS is the fourth film in the series and boasts having the original cast from the first film, including gravelly-voiced Vin Diesel. Buy this movie or have your man card revoked. We're also giving away a few copies of the BluRay and DVD of this movie right HERE. Yes, we really are that awesome.
GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT
GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT comes right off the heels of Ryan Reynolds being announced as the star for the upcoming live-action movie. It tells of Hal Jordan's start in the Green Lantern Corps and his fight to stop its rampant corruption. Rent it simply because is stars BSG's Tricia Helfer as a voice talent.
