Talk about a random trio of actors.

According to Variety, Thomas Haden Church has joined the cast of the upcoming William Friedkin-directed film, KILLER JOE, already starring Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch.

The film is Friedkin’s adaptation of the Tracy Letts' play of the same name, and follows a brother and sister duo who hire a cop, Killer Joe, to kill their mother. Those of you may remember Letts as the scribe of the play which inspired Friedkin’s masterful thriller, 2006’s underrated gem BUG.

McConaughey will play the titular character, with Hirsch playing the role of the brother. No news as to which role Church will play, but I don’t think it quite matters, as this is one hell of an interesting cast. Sure, I’m not a fan of McConaughey’s work, but with this and his Richard Linklater film, BERNIE, it looks like he’s hoping to go in a new direction with his career, and both Church and Hirsch are really talented actors.

Hopes are really high for this one. I can’t wait to check it out, but what about you?
