THOR 2 set to bow in 2013; Chris Hemsworth back but not Kenneth Branagh

Here’s to the future.

With THE AVENGERS just a year out, and IRON MAN 3 already slated for a May 3, 2013 release, Marvel is set to keep their streak going, and this time, with the Norse thunder god himself, Thor.

Deadline is reporting that Marvel will be releasing THOR 2 in 2013. Chris Hemsworth will indeed be back on the project, but that can’t be said for director Kenneth Branagh, who will simply be a producer on the film, instead of as the film’s director.

Hemsworth is quite a busy man, and will be for the foreseeable future, as he’ll star in films like SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, RED DAWN, CABIN IN THE WOODS, and the recently announced SHADOW RUNNER, making this an interesting move to try and schedule. With a firm date set to be revealed later today, one could only imagine that a summer date is likely.

Now, following in the footsteps of the first THOR film, hopes are really high for this project, despite Branagh’s absence. I’m not quite sure where one can go with this character from here on out, particularly since the plot will revolve around what happens post-AVENGERS, but wherever they go, Marvel has yet to steer the film world wrong. In Marvel this writer trusts.
