No matter what you want to say about the franchise it spawned, the first SAW film is a genuinely solid addition to the genre, and may very well be the best piece of “torture porn” that the modern horror subgenre has given us.

That is why, when it was announced this morning as a premiere in the TIFF’s Midnight Madness series, James Wan’s (creator of SAW) newest film, INSIDIOUS, became one of the bigger horror films that I am looking forward to seeing when it hits theaters.

Now, thanks to Twitch (via The Playlist), we have our first look at a character from the film, which looks like the cinematic love child of Helena Bonham Carter and a transvestite paranormal entity. In other words, it’s kind of creepy.

Personally, while I’m not the biggest fan of most modern horror films, as I just genuinely don’t find the terrifying, I do have some hopes for this pretty solid sounding horror film, which stars Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, and Patrick Wilson.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

When proud parents take possession of an old house, an accident results in one of their sons falling into a coma. The tragedy doesn't stop there when they are beset by vengeful spirits from another realm in this new chiller by the director and writer of Saw and by the producers of Paranormal Activity. The film stars Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey and Patrick Wilson.
