Tim Dowling penning UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT remake; Will Smith and Denzel Washington may star
After languishing in production purgatory for a while, it appears as though the long-talked about UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT remake has finally gotten quite a bit of steam.
Varietyhas revealed that the film, set to be remade since getting nabbed up by WB in 2002, has picked Tim Dowling as writer of a re-write of the screenplay. he original starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, and followed two people who hunt down thieves who stole their lottery ticket.
WEDDING CRASHERS director David Dobkin has been attached to this thing for seemingly ever, and is still very much aboard the project, with both Will Smith (who has been attached since day one) and Denzel Washington attached to star as the buddy pair.
While I’ve actually never seen the original film, I do love the idea of both Smith and Washington jumping aboard a comedy like this. They both haven’t really done something like this in quite some time, so a lighter comedy could really be a breath of fresh air for the two of them. Dobkin as director also really makes this a compelling little project., one that I can't wait to check out.
