Timur Bekmambetov looking at RED ASPHALT for his next project?
With a copious amount of projects rumored to be at his fingertips, WANTED director Timur Bekmambetov has been out of the filmmaking game for about two years now.
Well, according to the LA Times, the filmmaker may have decided on what he will put himself in front of next, and it is reportedly a 3D thriller, called RED ASPHALT. That’s about as much as anyone knows at this point, but the film is based on a pitch bought up by Lionsgate back in 2008, and will be based on a screenplay by Andrew Baldwin.
While Bekmambetov has hinted at a possible WANTED 2, that project appears dead, particularly after the departure of star Angelina Jolie. Throw in the insane hype behind getting projects out in 3D, and the fact that Lionsgate is really out of that market at this point in time, and this seems like a sure thing. However, he’s a director with a lot of things at his desk, so for all any of us know, this could change in a matter of hours.
While I dig his films DAY WATCH and NIGHT WATCH, WANTED was a bit too loud and boisterious of a film, and while it may have been fun, it failed on nearly every other aspect. I’m not too interested in seeing what he can do, but this is still in the very early stages of rumor, so that could all change once this thing gets moving.
