Tobe Hooper’s DJINN gets leads
While it definitely sparked a lot of interest after it was first announced a month or so ago, Tobe Hooper’s upcoming film, DJINN, hasn’t seen much news hit the ether. However, according to Variety, it has finally gotten itself quite a cast.
The outlet is reporting that Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal have joined the film’s cast. DJINN will follow a young couple who return back to their home after a trip in the U.S. to discover that their new home, in an apartment complex, was built on an abandoned fishing village and has now become haunted by things known as djinn.
The film begins shooting this week in Dubai, and features a script from writer David Tully.
Now while I haven’t seen THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE, Laith’s latest turn, Jammal was impressive in the much talked about CARLOS, so this may ultimately prove to be quite a return to form for the filmmaker who has admittedly seen better days. It will be quite interesting to see what Hooper can do with this great cast and a rather compelling, if wholly cliché, narrative.
