Coming hot off the heels of his absolutely stellar HBO mini-series/noir epic MILDRED PIERCE, director Todd Haynes (I’M NOT THERE) has been rather hush hush about what his next film will be.

However, in a recent interview with Time Out London (via The Playlist), we’ve learned a bit about just what to expect from what sounds like an exciting flick.

Haynes revealed that he’s working with MEEK’S CUTOFF scribe Jon Raymond on a new film, “about contemporary conservative politics in America.  We’re trying to figure out a way into it now.”

At this point, the film seems pretty far off, as I would imagine the script is just now being penned, so while it’s nice to see the wheels spinning, they won’t me moving all that quickly for some time. Personally, while I’m not one to be all that excited about a film pertaining to conservative politics, the idea of a brilliant filmmaker like Haynes taking on the subject matter is really intriguing. He has yet to make a film that’s less than superb, so I don’t think that will be changing anytime soon.
